Our Baby Girl Loses Her First Tooth!

Gianna lost her first tooth today! She'd been anticipating this big event for quite a while as the front root of her tooth was totally detached and visible for the past two days. She had a little help from Joy who actually pulled it out. It was nice to feel her joy and see her new grin. She's looking forward to her first visit from the tooth-fairy tonight.

I have to admit, it made me just a bit sad to realize that our baby girl will soon be taking on the look of a bigger girl now that her grownup teeth will start coming in; not to mention the fact that she'll be turning 6 next month. I just can't believe how quickly she is growing up. Where has the time gone? As I often tell my friends.............It's not that I didn't believe people when they told me how quickly my children would grow up, it's just that I couldn't comprehend how fast it would go.

Gianna, losing her tooth, made us reminisce with laughter about one of Catherine's tooth losing episodes. Catherine had a tooth that was very loose. She was anxious for it to come out and decided to try a method that her Grandpa Jack had used on some of his children. His method was to tie one end of a string around the loose tooth and the other to the handle of an open car door. As a test of courage, which he was fond of giving, he would have the child with the loose tooth slam the car door which would yank out the tooth. Amanda and Joy helped Catherine tie the string to her tooth. Instead of a car door though, they decided to use their bedroom door. As the time got closer to slam the door shut, Catherine began to lose her courage and started to cry. She was torn between the two emotions of wanting her tooth to come out and the pain she was afraid she'd have to endure. Her sisters encouraged and coaxed her for quite a while, but Catherine only got more and more worked up as the internal struggle continued. She was crying hysterically when she suddenly realized that her bladder was about to burst. Feeling relieved that she had a good excuse to put off the inevitable, and fearing she wouldn't make it to the bathroom in time she bolted from the room yelling to her sisters that she had to go to the bathroom. Her single-focusness at this moment caused her to forget that the string was still attached to her tooth and as she ran past the doorway her tooth remained behind! Much to everyone's delight!

Thank you, Lord, for the blessing of my dear children. I am so happy to be a mother. I pray that I will do justice to my vocation and raise children who will love, fear and follow you all the days of their lives. Thank you for the priviledge of letting me be a stay-at-home mother and for the opportunity to spend so much of my time with them. Thank you for allowing me to homeschool them......to learn with them, and watch them grow. I've been truly blessed.
